The Narrows

The Narrows in Glasgow, KY

Where is it:  About 5 miles from Glasgow, KY
When was I there:  July 08
Number of sites:  80.  There are two areas, area a and area b.  Area A is newer than B.  The sites in A are nicer, have more space and new picnic tables.  The sites are nice but NOT level.  There are very few sites that are close to the water.  The swimming area is quite a hike from the camping area.  Also, there is no shade at the swimming area so take an umbrella for sun protection.
Site #:  A-8
Comments on campground:  I really enjoyed this campground.  It is clean and very nicely kept. There is a marina right next to the campground which is situated on Barren River Lake.  The lake is wonderful.  It is a clean, deep and wide lake.  We didn't see any trash or logs in the water.  This campground is so close to Glasgow that it is easy to run to town for any supplies. is Ice is available.
Rating:  8/10.  I give it an 8 because of the distance to the water.  Another thing that happened was bugs.  Yes, bugs.  About 7 pm every evening these gnat-like bugs started swarming.  They were so annoying especially right at dinner time.  We talked with our "neighbor".  He said that the gnats came only in the first few weeks of July.  By August they would be gone.  The bugs would not stop me from returning to this great campground and lake.  I loved it.

Sorry, I don't have any pics of this campground.

Lillydale Park

Where is it:  On Dale Hollow Lake
Number of sites:  115.  Many of these sites are for tent camping only.  There is a great island that is for tent camping only.  All of those sites have great water views.
Site number: 27.  This site was not on the water but we did have a fabulous view of the lake.  I do prefer this side of the campground because of the lakeside view.  The other side of the campground has a view of a cove.
Comments on the campground:  This is a nice campground with a playground, volley ball court, a beach area, church services on Sunday morning, and boat ramp.  The most wonderful thing about this campground is the lake.  Dale Hollow is clean, clear, deep and wide.  The kids can swim right there at the campsite.  Also, boats can be pulled up to the shore to anchor.
Rating:  9 out of 10.  I give it a 9 only because the trees were killed by a beetle several years ago so it was not very shady.
